Traveling to Campus and its Effects on Study Habits
Client: Discovering User Needs for UX course
Year: 2024
Duration: 5 months
Platform: Microsoft Powerpoint, Report
Tools: Interview Protocol
Qualitative Research study utilizing semi-structured interviews to investigate how commute time and travel conditions influence student’s overall academic performance.
Challenges
Assessing how far students live from campus and the transportation methods they use (driving, public transportation, walking). Determine how commuting influences students’ ability to allocate time for studying. Commuting can drain energy and productivity, reducing students’ capacity to focus on their studies. Students who commute may have less access to on-campus resources like libraries, study rooms, or study groups.
Roles
UX Researcher
Recruit participants to interview who are from a diverse sample of commuting distances (local, moderate, long-distance) and a mix of transportation methods. Create open ended questions to allow flexibility ensuring key aspects of the research are covered.
Goals
Identify correlations between commute length and how much study time students can dedicate to their coursework. Analyze how commuting affects study schedules and which times during the day or week are most affected by travel. Explore how fatigue and stress can impact the quality of study habits. Develop a comprehensive understanding of what strategies work best to maximize study time and how they can be better supported by access to resources.
Solution
Semi-structured interviews with protocol – collect qualitative insights from students regarding their commuting routine and its impact on their study habits.
